Why I Use AI in My Content (And Why I’m Not Apologizing for It)

What AI actually replaces for me (and what it doesn’t)

Let me be really clear about something first: the core content is mine. The knowledge is mine. Twenty-five years of hands-on DIY and crafting experience is mine. The recipes I’ve tested, the candles I’ve poured, the oracle decks I’ve hand-designed, the Pinterest strategy I’ve spent years refining — all mine. AI didn’t give me any of that.

What AI replaces isn’t the substance of my content. It’s the budget I don’t have.

When a big lifestyle blog publishes a recipe post, there’s usually a photographer, a food stylist, a kitchen full of ingredients bought specifically for the shoot, a graphic designer, and an editor behind that finished piece. When I publish a recipe post, there’s me, my kitchen, and whatever ingredients I actually have in the house that week.

AI fills the gap where the budget would sit. It helps me generate a beautiful hero image when I can’t afford to buy a five-pound bag of specialty flour just to photograph one bowl of it. It helps me draft faster so I can get to the actual thinking. It helps me create graphic mockups that would have cost me a designer’s day rate three years ago. (  or hours of my time as an actual graphic deisgner)

What it doesn’t do is come up with the idea. It doesn’t have the lived experience. It doesn’t know what actually happens when you pour a food candle that’s supposed to look like a cupcake or which polymer clay techniques work at what oven temperature. That part is still on me — and honestly, that’s the part that matters.
