Unlock Your Optimal Health with an Ayurvedic Diet: The Secret to a Balanced Mind, Body, and Spirit

Unlock Your Optimal Health with an Ayurvedic Diet: The Secret to a Balanced Mind, Body, and Spirit

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a traditional system of medicine that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. It is based on the idea that good health and well-being depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. In Ayurveda, each person has a unique constitution known as their dosha, which determines their physical, mental, and emotional characteristics.

There are three doshas in Ayurveda: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Understanding your dosha can help you better understand your health and what you can do to maintain balance and wellness.

Here is a brief overview of each dosha and how you can support your unique constitution through Ayurvedic healing:

Vata Dosha: This dosha governs movement and is associated with the elements of air and ether. People with a dominant Vata dosha tend to be energetic, creative, and spontaneous, but can also be prone to anxiety and restlessness. To balance Vata, it is important to eat warm, cooked foods and limit raw foods, avoid cold drinks and foods, and engage in regular physical activity. Massages with warm oil and warm baths can also help to soothe the nervous system and calm Vata.

Pitta Dosha: This dosha governs metabolism and is associated with the elements of fire and water. People with a dominant Pitta dosha tend to be intelligent, confident, and assertive, but can also be prone to anger and inflammation. To balance Pitta, it is important to avoid overheating, spicy foods, and alcohol, and to practice relaxation techniques such as yoga and meditation. Cooling foods like cucumber and coconut water can also help to balance Pitta.

Kapha Dosha: This dosha governs structure and is associated with the elements of earth and water. People with a dominant Kapha dosha tend to be stable, calm, and grounded, but can also be prone to lethargy and weight gain. To balance Kapha, it is important to engage in regular physical activity, limit heavy and oily foods, and avoid oversleeping. Spicy and bitter foods can help to stimulate Kapha and support weight loss.

Ayurvedic healing can help you to maintain balance and promote well-being by supporting your unique dosha. Whether you have a dominant Vata, Pitta, or Kapha constitution, understanding your dosha and incorporating specific lifestyle and dietary practices can help you to optimize your health and feel your best.  Find out what your Dosha is with this Quiz.

How Does Your Body Type Affect Digestion?

Digestion is an essential process that affects not only our physical well-being, but also our mental and emotional health. In Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine, it is believed that each person has a unique constitution known as their dosha, which determines their physical, mental, and emotional characteristics. Understanding your dosha can provide insight into how your body processes food and how you can support your digestion.

As previously mentioned, there are three doshas in Ayurveda: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each dosha has its own unique characteristics and influences the digestive process differently.

Vata Dosha: People with a dominant Vata dosha tend to have a fast metabolism and can be prone to digestive issues such as bloating, constipation, and gas. To support their digestion, it is recommended that Vata individuals eat warm, cooked foods, avoid raw and cold foods, and limit their intake of beans and lentils. Regular meals, warm spices like ginger and turmeric, and massages with warm oil can also help to soothe the digestive system.

Pitta Dosha: People with a dominant Pitta dosha have a strong digestive fire and can be prone to heartburn, acid reflux, and inflammation. To support their digestion, it is recommended that Pitta individuals avoid overheating, spicy foods, and alcohol. Cooling foods such as cucumber and coconut water, as well as relaxation techniques like yoga and meditation, can help to balance Pitta and soothe the digestive system.

Kapha Dosha: People with a dominant Kapha dosha have a slow metabolism and can be prone to sluggish digestion and weight gain. To support their digestion, it is recommended that Kapha individuals engage in regular physical activity, limit heavy and oily foods, and avoid oversleeping. Spicy and bitter foods can help to stimulate Kapha and support weight loss.

Our dosha affects our digestion in unique ways and understanding our dosha can provide valuable insight into how we can support our digestive health. Whether you have a dominant Vata, Pitta, or Kapha constitution, incorporating specific dietary and lifestyle practices can help you to optimize your digestion and feel your best. Tri Doshic Ayurveda

Tri Doshic Ayurveda is a unique and holistic approach to Ayurvedic medicine that recognizes the interplay between the three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Unlike other forms of Ayurveda, which focus on balancing a single dominant dosha, Tri Doshic Ayurveda recognizes that each person has all three doshas present in their constitution, albeit in varying proportions.

In Tri Doshic Ayurveda, the goal is to achieve a state of balance and harmony between all three doshas, rather than just addressing one dosha. This is achieved through a comprehensive approach that takes into account an individual’s physical, mental, and emotional health, as well as their lifestyle, diet, and environment.

One of the key benefits of Tri Doshic Ayurveda is that it provides a personalized approach to healing and wellness. By considering all three doshas, practitioners can provide a more comprehensive approach to health and well-being. For example, if an individual has a dominant Vata dosha, they may be advised to eat warm, cooked foods, engage in physical activity, and practice relaxation techniques to balance their constitution. At the same time, if they have a secondary Pitta dosha, they may also be advised to avoid overheating and spicy foods to maintain balance.

Tri Doshic Ayurveda also recognizes the importance of seasonal changes and the impact they can have on our health and well-being. For example, during the summer months when Pitta dosha is more predominant, individuals may be advised to incorporate cooling foods and activities into their routine to balance their constitution.

In conclusion, Tri Doshic Ayurveda is a holistic and personalized approach to Ayurvedic medicine that recognizes the unique combination of doshas present in each individual. By taking into account an individual’s physical, mental, and emotional health, as well as their lifestyle, diet, and environment, Tri Doshic Ayurveda provides a comprehensive approach to healing and wellness.

How To Protect Your Energy & Raise Your Vibration

How To Protect Your Energy & Raise Your Vibration

With everything going on in the World right now it can be easy to get distracted and thrown off balance. In this post I am going to talk about a number of ways that you can protect your energy & raise your vibration.

Are you giving your energy away?

There are are a number of different things that can leave you feeling depleted and even hopeless at times and it is my intention that these tips ( #facts) will help you start shifting your mindset and your current reality.

Your energetic field can be affected by so many different environmental and emotional factors.

  • The food you eat
  • The music you listen to
  • The news ( quite possibly the worst one)
  • The people you spend your time with
  • The things you spend your time thinking about
  • Trauma

And the one thing that I want you to first understand is that you cannot begin to fix the problem with the same mindset that created it to begin with.

DISCLAIMER. Please be aware that the topic discussed is in no way a substitute for medical advise, but rather based on my own experience and others like me. This site also utilizes affiliate links, which means when you click on a link and make a purchase, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

So What Can I Do To Protect My Energy?

It all starts with first making a decision. YES, really. Once you put it in your mind , it is time to start taking aligned action, hold the thought and the feeling that it brings you. Rather than focusing on all of the negative aspects of life, start focusing on little things you are grateful for , rather than the things you aren’t.

Even in the most dire of circumstances, there is ALWAYS something to be grateful for. And it could be the simple things , the things you take for granted.

For Example.

  • Have arthritic knees? Be grateful that you can still walk.
  • Living in your car? Be grateful you are not out on the street.
  • Be grateful that you can see.
  • Be grateful that you can smell .
  • Be grateful that you are breathing.
  • Be grateful for the food you ate today.
  • Be grateful for the people in your life who have been helpful.
  • Be grateful for nature

Each morning when you wake up… get a glass of water , find somewhere quiet or have some relaxing music playing and make a list of at least 10 things you are grateful for. Do this every day until you have 100 things you are grateful for. (AND THEN DO IT AGAIN! )

I know you may be thinking, you don’t understand, you have no idea what it is like. But I can guarantee you that I do. A chronic illness, debilitating anxiety and feeling like I was going to die several times per day for almost a year of my life left me feeling hopeless but it was during this time that I started looking for solutions and realized that I could not change my situation in the same environment that created it.

You are 100% responsible for your own life, while support should most definitely be appreciated , it is not up to other people to make you happy, fix your problems for you or support you in any way. ( so for those that do, be grateful)  You need to show up and do the work. I am not going to tell you it is going to be easy because the honest truth is that for most it is not but I will tell you that it is every bit worth it.

There are a number of things you can start changing to start experiencing some shifts in your energy and mindset.

  • Stop watching the news
  • Start reading personal development book, watching webinars that teach a skill.
  • Stop giving your time to things that do not enhance your life is some form. ( Drinking, Smoking, Watching TV.)
  • Get out in nature and ground your energy
  • Drink lots of water
  • Stop eating processed foods, gluten and sugar.
  • Stop using toxic chemical products ( cleaners, bath and body products) Use natural products instead. (Or make your own)
  • Spend time daily practicing gratitude, journaling and meditating
  • Use herbs , crystals and sound frequency healing
  • Visit a Reiki Practitioner or Doctor who specializes in Functional Medicine
  • Take herbal salt baths
  • Use Essential Oils
  • Recite affirmations several times per day.

When creating new habits, you will have to start releasing those negative beliefs that have been filling your thoughts and engrained in to your subconscious mind. You will need to let go of the judgment of others, the past and any kind of negative thinking.

Start with some Free Masterclasses or simply grab a notebook and connect with your inner guidance.  Odds are, a majority of what you are feeling does not even belong to you… These are beliefs that you have picked up from other people, your parents, it could be an inherited belief or one that was born from a traumatic experience.  Part of healing is learning to live in the now , not the past or creating problems in the future that do not yet exist.

I am creating a list of books that I personally feel would help you along your journey, leave me a comment if you would like the list or if there is anything else about spiritual growth and shifting your mindset that you would like to know more about.

These issues were not created overnight , nor will they be solved overnight. Have faith, take action and start with small changes. YOU GOT THIS!

DIY Room Spray Recipes Made With Essential Oils

DIY Room Spray Recipes Made With Essential Oils

Ditch the chemical laden , store bought room and linen sprays and make your own DIY Room spray with essential oils.

If you have been following me for any length of time, you likely know that several years ago I made a conscious decision to start replacing the toxic chemical laden products in my home with healthier and more natural versions.

In many cases , I make my own and while it is a part of my business selling ready made products, I believe everyone should have the option of making their own products as well.  Affordability can be an issue when it comes to buying healthier , more natural products but you can easily make your own with quality, budget friendly essential oils and some staple ingredients that you can buy off of Amazon.

DISCLAIMER:: This website utilizes the use of affiliate links. All this means is that if you click on a link and make a purchase, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

These DIY Essential Oil Room Sprays, can also be used as a Linen Spray to freshen up your sheets, as well as add a antibacterial and antimicrobial benefit. ( Depending on the essential oils chosen.)

I will share with you some of my favorite essential oil recipes and essential oil blends that you can use to make your own diy linen spray.

Many people have been asking me to share my recipes over on TIKTOK and I have also heard that people need a more affordable option than the MLM Option that I have been using for years. And while I do believe they are some of the best quality oils, they are not within everyone’s budget .

I have also heard you when you said you wanted a quality option that did not require you to be on a monthly autoship! I get it!

Contrary to popular belief, there is more than 1 great essential oil company, but I definitely have my top 5 and will be doing some side by side and price comparisons very soon.

I recommend have a few different sized amber glass bottles. 4 oz bottles are great for travel and small gifts, 8 oz are great sizes for bathrooms and the 16 oz bottles are especially great for the Linen Spray , as you will find you go through more refreshing your furniture and linens.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

How much essential oil should I add to room spray?

My general room of thumb is 1/4  witch hazel to water ratio.  And a really easy way to measure for those who do not have a scale is to use measuring cups. There are 8 oz in a cup of liquid, so you would be able to make an 8 oz spray or two 4 oz bottles.  Double the recipe to fill your 16 oz bottle.

My recommendation for the essential oils is to use approximately 30 drops EO for a 4 oz room spray.

(Note: Witch hazel helps the oil and water combine and will help the scent linger for a longer period of time.)

I also add a drop or two  of liquid castile soap to act as an extra binder and emulsifier.

We use amber glass bottles for a few reasons, first to protect the essential oils from degrading through light , as well as to make sure that essential oils aren’t eating the plastic, there are no leached chemicals from plastic and glass bottles can be recycled over and over again!

Essential Oil Room Spray Recipe

  • 1/4 cup witch hazel
  • 3/4 cup distilled or Kangen water
  • drop or 2 plain Liquid Castile Soap
  • 40-60 drops essential oil ( based on personal preference)

DO NOT USE RUBBING ALCOHOL to make sprays!

Mix together all of your liquids and then add essential oils and stir with a non metal spoon or whisk. I will often just make a batch of plain room and linen spray base and add essential oils to the bottle and give it a little shake. This way I can make several different scents.

This will fill two 4 oz bottles, so I would put 20 -30 drops of essential oil per bottle.

RECOMMENDED ESSENTIAL OILS & BLENDS

  • Mint Rain – Reminiscent of a fresh spring rain storm.  This  is a great choice for Linen Sprays!
  • Immunity Blend
  • Fearless – When we conquer our fears we can truly accomplish anything! Fearless is a blend to inspire confidence and overcome obstacles in your way.
  • Dreamer – This is the perfect bedtime blend! My husband has suddenly started remember his dreams.
  • Courage – This is Revive’s version of Young Living Valor.
  • Concentrate – Revive’s version of Doterra In Tune
  • Calm – This oil is a MUST HAVE and is Revive’s version of Deterra Serenity.
  • Bright Future – Revive Version of Young Living Envision ( This is a favorite of mine from both companies! )
  • Apple Orchard – This is a great scent for the kitchen and makes a great house warming gift!
  • Allergy Relief – A blend of essential oils to aide in the relief of allergy symptoms.
  • Vanilla Absolute – This is a great scent on it’s own but add it almost any other oil for a delicate, sweet lift.
  • Certified Peppermint and Winter Cocoa combined smell just like a Peppermint Patty!
  • Palo Santo , American Clary Sage & Kashmiri Lavender are all great scents for space cleansing.
  • Ruby Red Grapefruit – Such an energizing scent! Great in the kitchen or office. I also like to spritz in garbage cans.
  • Iced Coffee – mix this with Vanilla to get a yummy iced vanilla coffee that will remind you of your favorite Starbucks drink!

I honestly could go on and on because the variety of oils available at Revive Essential Oils truly is unmatched! You can save even further by choosing a starter kit .

You can also save by building your own kit and choosing the exact oils that you want.  USE CODE JENNIFERDAWN TO SAVE ON YOUR ENTIRE ORDER!

With Revive you can order as little or as much as you want , no monthly autoships and they are less expensive because they are not having to pay on out tiered levels like an MLM. They use the same 3rd party testing that has been used by all of the bigger, more commonly known essential oil companies.  They also carry many of the other supplies you would need to make your own DIY Products. ( And several version of many well known higher priced blends) I have to take a minute to shout out their Version of Young Living’s Abundance Essential Oil.

DIY ROOM SPRAY LABELS

Bring your DIY to a whole new level with professional looking labeling. Etsy has a number of different templates you can choose from and they are big time savers if you do not want to spend a ton of time designing a label.  These labels are a great idea especially if you plan on giving these out as gifts or selling.

DIY Hibiscus Mint Lip Balm

DIY Hibiscus Mint Lip Balm

If you are anything like me #1 you just love to make things and #2 you are tired of chemical laden products. Make this DIY Hibiscus Mint Lip balm and have a little extra homemade goodness to add to your gift baskets.

I will often make an entire spa basket with lip balms, homemade bath bombs, Handcrafted candles an something else that has been made by me.

How To Make Lip Balm

This lip balm is super moisturizing and is so simple to make!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/4 CUP SHEA BUTTER OR COCOA BUTTER
  • 1/4 CUP COCONUT OIL
  • 1/4 CUP BEESWAX
  • 2 TSP JOJOBA, ALMOND OR VITAMIN E OIL
  • 30 DROPS PEPPERMINT OIL
  • DRIED HIBISCUS

I had purchased this portable electric element / stove /hot plate …  because I thought it would be extremely handy during canning season and for my diy projects like this one, along with  candle making. I then take a stainless steel pouring pot and add a few inches of water in it to act like a double boiler.

I filled a mason jar with everything but the peppermint essential oil  ( I recommend you always use a Good Quality essential oil … My 4 favorite essential oil companies are Young Living, Revive, Simply Earth and Fabulous Frannies)

I let this simmer on very low for a few hours to steep the hibiscus in to the oil.

This high mucilage content of Hibiscus enhances the skin’s ability to retain moisture and makes for a great addition to this DIY Lip Balm Recipe. Once the oils were completely melted and had been steeping for a few hours, I grabbed another clean glass container and strained the oil to remove the hibiscus. You may find  it easier to strain in to a small glass measuring cup if you do not have any pipettes on hand. Pipettes allow for more accuracy and less mess.

Fill each lip balm container to the top and allow to cool. Once cooled you will likely notice that there are holes in the middle, if you still have room at the top, you can take any left over balm and top it off , or simply use a heat tool on low to level out the tops.

If you plan on giving these for gifts or selling, I recommend adding a nice label and some shrink wrap.

If you are not very good with design, you can buy some editable templates on Etsy , like the one I purchased to make these.

There are so many different variations that you can make with this recipe. Instead of the hibiscus you can infuse other herbs, such as chamomile , butterfly pea flower or rose.

Try a different flavor combo, like Sweet orange and vanilla for a tasty natural orange creamsicle flavor, or iced coffee  and Pumpkin Pie for a Natural Pumpkin Spice Latte ( Or make life even simpler by buying it pre -blended! . Blending Winter Cocoa and Roasted Coconut will give you a lovely Chocolate Macaroon Flavor.

These oils are also great options on their own :

@jenniferdawnweltz It is my goal to become as toxin free as possible and show others how they can start ditching the chemical overload! #toxinfree #essentialoils #diyproject #holistichealing #urbanhomestead @jenniferdawnweltz ♬ Dance Monkey - Tones And I
